A Decade of Dork

2000-2009... i'll miss you.
I can't believe it's ten years later & i'm still having debates on who's hotter; Legolas or Gandalf. I also got hooked on Harry Potter around the same time... again, can't believe it's a whole ten years later, and i'm STILL dressing up at midnight for the movies. I'm only 18 & i know i've got plenty of years ahead of me, but I honestly feel like no future time period will impact me as much as my teen years have. In the past decade, in addition to being introduced to a plethora of nerdy movies, books, and people... i've had some geeky experiences i'll always remember.
-the start of my love affair with piercings
- my 1st Ren Faire. I was 14 & got sick off medieval onion rings :]
-Pirates of the Caribbean!!
-which ultimately led to my 1st tattoo
-that one year i dressed up as Princess Jasmine & won a costume contest.
I want to i was maybe 9... i think that was the moment i knew i liked
dressing up and getting compliments.
-falling in love at a comic book store... with the store itself...
-introduced to the 3 best cult films of all time:
Rocky Horror, REPO!, & Forbidden Zone
-being launched into a new obsession thanks to the 2009 Star Trek reboot.
As awesomesauce & nerdy as this decade has been, i've got to say, i'm so ready for 2010.
Things can only get better. More costumes, more obsessions, more fun.

reunion

Thinking about our 10 yr high school reunion just now. In my head, most of the girls have all had plastic surgery. Boob jobs... lypo... nose jobs. Odds are, I'd be the only girl there who had cosmetic surgery to achieve awesomesauce Vulcan ears. I thnk i'd maybe even be content with just getting adorable pointed pixie ears done. I wonder how constructive ear surgery works... just wait... it'll happen.
***edit: Stahl Ear: an awesomesauce deformity where ungrateful buttholes come out of the womb with Vulcan-esque ears. I can't believe i've got to pay thousands of dollars for plastic surgery... and some people are just born with it. I bet they even hateeee their ears. I'd be more than happy to trade. I wonder if you can do that... an organ donor but for ears. If they could just chop off our ears and swap 'em... that'd be super...

In A Perfect World

I'd have a geek of a boyfriend...

Data

Over the past few weeks, i've developed an irrational love for the android.
I think it's because he looks like sexy Ogre from Skinny Puppy... but acts like Spock, in a sense they don't really understand all human emotions or illogical ways of thinking. The difference, of course, being that while Spock is content and proud of his half Vulcan background, Data wants nothing more in the world than to be human... which makes me pity him :[

Sometimes I Wonder

who reads this. Genuine friends? Creepy lurkers? Strangers? Enemies?
Guess it doesn't matter. I said before that I started this blog to keep old
friends up to date on what i've been doing... it was a lie... i'm up to date
on nothing here... and I write here for me. To look back later & remember
a certain date, feeling, or memory. Don't forget, Melissa... forgetting means
growing up!! I'm trying to update more. So many good things have been
happening that I never want to forget. Maybe I'll get started today. Maybe.

at the moment....

LIFE: I feel so confused about it. The lines between fiction and reality are constantly blurring and it scares me. For the 1st time since April, I can honestly say i'm happy, but I can't exactly put a finger on what has changed for the better. I'm out of that 'broken-hearted, antisocial, misunderstood misfit' phase. Was it a phase? I'd like to believe it's something everyone goes through once in their life... or maybe I don't want to admit that something might be wrong with me. The defective toy department stores put on sale because it's missing a limb and few vital parts all the other toys have.
I still love my Melissa-time more than anything, but i've found i'm quite fond of hanging out with old friends and socializing with new ones. It wasn't a quiet, shy Melissa that existed before. It was a Melissa that would rather observe the people and places around her, afraid to open up.
I wonder if there's an age where we stop developing mentally... emotionally.

I hate kids...

I seriously think I'd enjoy dropkicking an infant... they're just not for me. If I were to ever get knocked up though, I've decided that if it's a boy, i'm naming him "John Lafayette." The english translation of Jean Lafitte, the pirate. I think it's perfect... John... like Johnny Depp. Lafayette... like the adorable, gay cook in the Sookie Stackhouse Saga. And if it's a girl... hmm, well, let's hope it never comes to that. She'd be a teenaged monster.

Lamestorming!!

"the story NEVER changes, just the names & faces" ;]

It didn't happen over night
Father Time was in no rush
he sat down one night with Cupid
and they agreed to brew a tiny crush

Sugar, spice,
and nothing nice
a dash of awesomesauce
and asian rice

a smile here
a side glance there
we'd compliment

the great debate

My mom says I look like Elvira... dad says Russell Brand. Can't complain. Elvira has nice boobs, and I like Russell's hair :)Michelle Rodriguez is an acceptable answer too.

Duhh, Melissa...

reading Alice in Wonderland, whilst listening to CobraStarship. At the chapter where the Duchess is trying to find the moral in every idiotic thing said... all I here is "good girls go bad" in the background... and I started thinking maybe that's the moral of two of my favorite musicals, CryBaby & Grease... Depp & Travolta both fall for the good girl... who in the end, changes everything about herself... just for a dude?
moral: dress like a skank, and you'll get the boy. why couldn't they teach me anything useful like that in highschool??

my bad :)
got my hair cut and dyed... first time that i can remember ever having bangs. i love them... alot. hmmm what else is new?? getting my dermal anchor removed tomorrow. hooray for retired piercings & new beginnings :)!! maybeee doing a vid this week if i'm feeling up to it. been busy lately. that's life.

Saturday, July 25, 2009

so i was thinking...

as you know, the Mad Hatter's hat has the "10/6" card... if you simplify that, it's "5/3" and the reciprocal of that is "3/5" ... and Alice in Wonderland comes out March 5th... or 3/5/2010. Do you think this was done on purpose... or just a coincidence?? :)

oh look! a visual!!

It's almost like being there. Not.

Biggest FML ever :(

I love Johnny Depp with every fiber of my being. His holiness was at Comic-Con today... for three minutes. I could deal with the fact that I missed out on a chance to be in the same room with Tim Burton... DLB of the Genetic Opera... Sithcamaro... and countless other idols of mine, but it absolutely sucks living with myself knowing that Johnny Depp was so close... and i missed it. Not gonna lie, i cried. I wouldn't expect anyone to understand /= epic fail. Brownies & ice cream have never sounded so good :(!!

I'm a huuuuuuuge NerdFighter/VlogBrothers fan. Hank Green's video inspired me... something clicked... it made sense. I feel so many emotions now that high school is over. Joy that I don't have homework anymore, relief that I don't have to wake up at 5am, confused about how to spend my time now, remorse that I'll probably be too busy or lazy to call you & make plans to hangout. Last night before the Transformers2 premiere, my inbox exploded with tweets about which theatre everyone was at. How weird is it that we wouldn't have known we were in the same casino if it wasn't for Twitter?? Honestly... it's kinda cool in a way. Then I realized that despite being in different states & colleges, we can still catch up, gossip, & share stories... & that's the beauty of being children of the internet.
I'm super stoked to be having a blog thing now. I'm hoping to update errrday with incidents, pictures, & randomness.
